Microsoft Hides Secret Job Post In The Bing Homepage

Microsoft has come up with a creative way to target potential applicants for one of its job posts. The software company is currently looking for a new Bing developer and it has hidden the job post in the web code of its Bing homepage.

People only have a chance to find the link to the job opening if they’re using Internet Explorer and have the debug settings enabled. IE users who hop on the Bing homepage will encounter a popup asking if they want to debug the webpage. Running the IE developer tools console will lead to another message, this time asking, ‘Interested in creating Bing.com experiences? Apply today.’ The user will also find a link to the job posting for a Bing developer on Microsoft’s career website.

The ‘secret job post’ is certainly not a secret anymore, but if you’re interested in the post you can certainly check out the rest of the job requirements and see if you have more than the ninja IE skills they want.

Hands-Free Segway Fits In A Backpack [Video]

Looking for a portable alternative to skateboards, scooters and bicycles? The Hovertrax by design firm Inventist is an auto-balancing electric transporter that uses gyro technology.

The Hovertrax is basically like a segway without the handle bars. It works on gyro technology, which means the user only has to shift his or her body weight to control the speed and direction. By leaning in any direction, the Hovertrax moves forward or backward, turns left or right, and rotates.

Hovertrax was created by Inventist founder and president Shane Chen. It consists of two halves that move independently of each other. Each wheel has a motor, gyro sensor and accelerometer.

This personal transport weighs only 9 pounds, making it easy to store or carry around in a duffel bag or backpack. The battery can be charged by simply plugging it into an electric outlet for about an hour.

Inventist is currently seeking funding for the Hovertrax on Kickstarter.

NY Design Week 2013: The Underground Furniture Scene at Noho Next

NohoNext2013-1.jpg

Now in its fourth year, Noho Design District has taken on a few different permutations over the years, encompassing various pop-up exhibitions from a tiny Japanese butcher shop to a four-story lumber company headquarters (which happen to be on the same block, no less), reflecting both the changes within the neighborhood and the landscape of American design as a whole. Once again, our friends Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov of Sight Unseen have masterminded a neighborhood-wide celebration of young and emerging designers. In addition to partnering with several co-conspirators such as Future Perfect and American Design Club, they’ve also curated the flagship Noho Next group exhibition, featuring 13 handpicked studios that comprise a showcase of design talent.

The exhibition took place over the weekend at Subculture, the event space in the basement of the 45 Bleecker Street Theater, which hosted Tom Dixon’s London Underground exhibition last year. (I don’t know if I’m dating myself with the reference, but I remember going to the Crosby Connection sandwich shop when they occupied the cafe a few years back…). Although it happens to be closing as I write this, hopefully our documentation can serve as future reference.

Crowd-Sourced Lost And Found Automatically Finds Missing Items

Startup company X6 Innovations wants to make it easier for people to find their things if ever they get lost. BlueBee is an electronic device designed to track your belongings based on the Blue Crowd Search technology, a system that ‘taps the power of the crowd’ to locate objects.

BlueBee looks like a cassette tape small enough to tuck into the pocket of your bag or your purse. You can attach it to your keys or simply store it somewhere in your car.  With Blue Crowd Search, users can find their lost items with the help of other BlueBee users. The BlueBee device can be detected automatically by other users’ smartphones near the area.

The BlueBee app has five main features. The Bee Map allows you to see the location of your BlueBee on a map. The Reminder feature warns you when you’re too far from your BlueBee device. With Smart Zone, you can save ‘safe places’ like your home or office and be alerted when your BlueBee leaves these areas. With Bee Buzz, you can make your BlueBee ring within a range of 50 meters. Remote Shutter is a bonus feature that allows you to use the BlueBee button as a remote for your smartphone camera.

BlueBee is compatible with Android and iOS. The company is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo.
