Del Popolo’s is a traveling pizza truck in San Francisco made from a 20-foot long recycled shipping container. Inside is a functioning traditional wood-fired oven which is used to bake each of the three rustic Neapolitan-inspired pizza variations Del Popolo’s sells. Customers can watch their made-to-order pizza being prepared and moved in and out of the over through large glass windows on the side of the truck.
Owner Jon Darsky worked with four designers and spent $180,000 to fit the container on to a heavy-duty delivery truck. The large oven which can reach temperatures of 800 degrees takes up nearly 1/3 of the space inside the container kitchen. It only takes about 1 minute to cook each of the pizzas.
